Jenna Marbles
Early Life and Education
Jenna Nicole Mourey was born on September 15, 1986, in Rochester, New York. She grew up in the suburb of Brighton where she attended Brighton High School. Her father and mother divorced during her childhood. Her mother, Deborah Mourey, later became known to fans as the "Debbie Machine" and played a central role in Jenna's management.
Jenna has one older brother named Devin Mourey. She graduated from Brighton High School in 2004 and relocated to Boston to pursue higher education.
Mourey enrolled at Suffolk University in Boston where she studied psychology. She was a student-athlete who played softball for the university team. Records indicate she completed her undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She continued her education in the same city and was accepted into Boston University.
There she earned a Master of Education in Sport Psychology and Counseling. She completed this graduate program before pivoting fully to digital media.
During her time in Massachusetts, Mourey worked various jobs to support herself. These roles included bartending, working at a tanning salon, and go-go dancing at nightclubs. She also wrote for StoolLaLa which was a female-focused vertical of Barstool Sports. She produced content for the site until 2011.
She left the publication after a disagreement with founder Dave Portnoy regarding the ownership and direction of her creative output. This period marked her transition from academic to internet content creation.
The pseudonym "Jenna Marbles" originated during this transitional phase. Mourey adopted the name to protect her mother's professional reputation. Deborah Mourey was unemployed at the time and feared that chance employers searching for the surname "Mourey" would find Jenna's comedic videos instead of her own professional history.
Jenna used the name of her Chihuahua, Mr. Marbles, to create the alias that would eventually define her career.

Following this viral success, Mourey briefly wrote for StoolLaLa, the female-focused vertical of Barstool Sports, in 2010 and 2011. yet, reports from 2020 highlight a contentious departure; Mourey left the publication in 2011 without a written contract, later stating she received no ownership of the videos she produced for the platform.
This separation marked a pivotal shift toward full independence, allowing her to retain creative control and revenue from her growing YouTube channel, "JennaMarbles", a pseudonym adopted to prevent her mother from finding her content while searching for jobs.
Expansion to Los Angeles and Platform Dominance
By 2012, Mourey had relocated to Santa Monica, California, renting a townhouse on Montana Avenue as she integrated into the Los Angeles digital entertainment sector. Her channel's growth accelerated rapidly during this period. A 2015 report by Variety noted that she had become the most-subscribed female personality on YouTube, a title she held until 2017.
Her content strategy evolved from skit-based comedy to personality-driven vlogs featuring her dogs, Mr. Marbles and Kermit.

This era also saw the release of "How to Avoid Talking to People You Don't Want to Talk To," which was featured in mainstream media outlets including The New York Times and ABC News, further bridging the gap between internet culture and traditional entertainment.
Mainstream Crossover and Diversification (2014, 2016)

Between 2014 and 2016, Mourey diversified her portfolio beyond YouTube. In July 2014, she launched "The Jenna & Julien Podcast" with her partner Julien Solomita, creating a new revenue stream and a platform for long-form content. The podcast ran until 2020. Simultaneously, she expanded into traditional media formats, hosting a weekly pop music countdown show titled "YouTube 15" on SiriusXM Hits 1 starting in 2014.
Her cultural impact was physically immortalized in October 2015 when Madame Tussauds New York unveiled a wax figure of her. Mourey was the social media personality to receive a wax figure at the museum, which depicted her taking a selfie, a nod to the medium that made her famous.
In the film industry, she served as an executive producer for Maximum Ride (2016), a film adaptation of the James Patterson series, demonstrating her influence in production roles.

2020 Departure and Hiatus
On June 25, 2020, Mourey uploaded a video titled "A Message," in which she announced her indefinite departure from the platform. In the 11-minute address, she apologized for past content from 2011 and 2012 that she identified as offensive.
Specific instances included a video featuring an impression of Nicki Minaj that utilized dark makeup, which she acknowledged as blackface, and a rap song containing anti-Asian slurs. Mourey stated, "I think I'm just going to move on from this channel for. I want to make sure the things I put into the world are not hurting anyone.".
At the time of her exit, her channel held approximately 20. 3 million subscribers and had accumulated over 3. 3 billion total video views. Following the announcement, Mourey retreated from public life. She and Solomita ended their joint podcast on August 17, 2020, with a final episode thanking their "Dink Fam" community.
Since 2020, Mourey has maintained strict radio silence on social media, appearing only incidentally in the background of Solomita's content. The couple married in 2022, a fact confirmed by Solomita online. As of early 2026, her channel remains inactive, though it retains a subscriber count of approximately 19. 4 million.
The Jenna & Julien Podcast
Between 2014 and 2020, Jenna Mourey and Julien Solomita co-hosted The Jenna & Julien Podcast, a weekly audio and video series that produced 281 episodes. The show functioned as an unscripted platform for the couple to discuss "awesome, random, and sometimes drunk conversations," diverging from the structured comedy sketches of Mourey's main YouTube channel.
The podcast was distributed across major platforms including iTunes, SoundCloud, and YouTube, where video versions of the recording sessions frequently garnered hundreds of thousands of views.
The show developed a distinct format characterized by recurring segments such as "Shark Tank" pitches, conspiracy theory, and "2 Truths & A Lie." Notable guests included fellow creators like JCyrus and Shane Dawson, though the hosts primarily relied on their own.
The "Dink Fam," the shared name for their podcast community, became a central part of their brand identity. In April 2017, the couple's collaborative efforts were recognized when they won "YouTube Ensemble of the Year" at the 9th Annual Shorty Awards.
Commercial success followed the show's popularity, with the podcast securing long-term sponsorships from brands such as MeUndies, Squarespace, StitchFix, and Postmates.
On August 17, 2020, the couple released the final installment, titled "The Final Podcast." In this six-minute episode, Solomita and Mourey announced the immediate discontinuation of the series, citing Mourey's departure from the internet and her need to prioritize mental health.
Solomita stated he would not continue the podcast alone, ending the six-year run.
Twitch Streaming and Gaming
Parallel to their podcast, Mourey and Solomita established a significant presence on Twitch under the channel name "JennaJulien." The channel accumulated over 400, 000 followers during their joint tenure. Their streaming schedule included broadcasts on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, featuring a mix of gameplay and "Just Chatting" segments.
The channel's content focused heavily on multiplayer games, with PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) and The Elder Scrolls Online being staples of their rotation. Mourey was particularly vocal about her affinity for The Elder Scrolls Online, frequently dedicating hours to housing and character customization within the game.
A defining feature of their setup was the "Dog Cam," a dedicated camera angle focused on their Italian Greyhounds, Kermit, Peach, and later Bunny, which allowed viewers to watch the pets sleep or interact while the hosts played.
Following Mourey's exit from public life in mid-2020, the joint streaming schedule ceased. Solomita assumed full control of the Twitch channel, rebranding it to "julien" and continuing to stream solo.
He maintained the community they built, eventually using the platform to raise substantial funds for charity, including a stream that generated over $1 million. Mourey has not made a verified appearance on the platform since her departure.

Madame Tussauds Wax Figure

In October 2015, Jenna Mourey achieved a significant milestone in digital media history by becoming the social media personality to have a wax figure displayed at Madame Tussauds New York. The museum unveiled the figure in Times Square, positioning it alongside traditional A-list celebrities.
Unlike standard wax statues, Mourey's figure was designed to interact with the digital age; it held a working camera phone, allowing visitors to take selfies that were immediately uploadable to social media.
The creation process involved a sitting where museum artists took over 250 measurements to ensure accuracy. The figure was styled in Mourey's signature aesthetic from that era, featuring bright hair and casual attire. This installation marked a shift in the entertainment industry's recognition of online creators as legitimate cultural icons.
Film and Television Production
Between 2015 and 2016, Mourey expanded her professional portfolio beyond YouTube into traditional film production and acting. In July 2015, she made a cameo appearance as herself in Smosh: The Movie, a film produced by Media and starring fellow YouTubers Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox. The film was released through major digital outlets and had a limited theatrical run.
In 2016, Mourey took on a behind-the-scenes role as an executive producer for the film adaptation of James Patterson's series, Maximum Ride. The film, which was released on Digital HD and DVD in late 2016, allowed her to influence the creative direction of a major intellectual property.
This move into executive production demonstrated her business acumen and desire to diversify her career beyond on-camera talent work.
SiriusXM and Radio Hosting
Mourey hosted a weekly radio program titled The YouTube 15 on SiriusXM's Hits 1 channel. Although the show launched in 2014, it continued to be a key part of her media output through 2015, 2016, and into early 2017. The program aired on Fridays and featured a countdown of the top 15 trending tracks on YouTube, bridging the gap between internet virality and traditional radio formats.
As host, Mourey curated the playlist and provided commentary, introducing a national radio audience to emerging artists who were gaining traction on video platforms before hitting mainstream charts. Records indicate the show was still active with new episodes as late as April 2017, marking a multi-year contract that solidified her presence in audio broadcasting.
The Jenna & Julien Podcast
One of Mourey's most sustained business ventures was The Jenna & Julien Podcast, co-hosted with her partner Julien Solomita. Running from 2014 until August 2020, the podcast produced nearly 300 episodes and became a staple in the comedy podcasting space. The show featured a loose, conversational format that covered topics ranging from conspiracy theories and childhood stories to mental health and internet culture.
The podcast was monetized through sponsorships with major direct-to-consumer brands, including MeUndies, Squarespace, and 23andMe. It also served as a cross-platform vehicle, as the couple frequently livestreamed the recording sessions on Twitch, allowing for real-time audience interaction.
On August 17, 2020, Solomita and Mourey released the final episode. In this broadcast, they formally announced the end of the podcast, citing Mourey's decision to step back from all public platforms. The finale served as one of the last pieces of new content released by Mourey before her indefinite hiatus.
Twitch Streaming and Gaming

Parallel to her YouTube career, Mourey established a significant presence on the livestreaming platform Twitch. Broadcasting under the channel name "JennaJulien" (later transitioned to Solomita's solo control), she streamed gameplay of titles such as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Mario Kart.
Her streaming strategy differed from her edited YouTube content, offering unscripted, long-form entertainment that frequently lasted several hours. The channel accumulated hundreds of thousands of followers and generated revenue through subscriptions and donations. The streams also popularized the "Dink Fam" community moniker, which referred to the couple's fanbase.
Merchandise and Brand Licensing
Mourey maintained a consistent merchandise line throughout this period. A notable venture was the production of plush toys modeled after her dogs, Kermit and Mr. Marbles. The "Kermie Worm" and "Mr. Marbles" toys were sold through her official online storefront and occasionally appeared in retail outlets.
to toys, she released apparel collections featuring catchphrases from her viral videos, such as "Team Legs" and "What are this?". These physical goods provided a recurring revenue stream independent of advertising rates on video platforms.
While her partner Julien Solomita launched his own clothing brand, Neat Dude, Mourey's merchandise remained distinct and focused on the specific inside jokes and characters from her channel.

Public Image and Philanthropy
Throughout the latter half of her career, Jenna Mourey transitioned from the shock-humor persona of her early viral fame to a figure widely regarded as "wholesome" and "unproblematic" by her audience. This shift coincided with a focus on personal growth, animal welfare, and a rejection of the "influencer" lifestyle in favor of more casual, authentic content.
Her fanbase, shared known as the "Dink Fam," frequently mobilized for charitable causes championed by Mourey and her partner, Julien Solomita.
Philanthropic Initiatives
Mourey's philanthropic efforts have primarily focused on animal welfare, specifically the rescue and rehabilitation of greyhounds. A long-time owner of an Italian Greyhound named Kermit, she became a vocal advocate for the breed.
In 2018, for her 32nd birthday, Mourey's fanbase organized a fundraiser for the National Greyhound Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to rescuing racing greyhounds. The campaign surpassed its initial goal, raising over $5, 000 to support the organization's rescue and education programs.
Beyond financial donations, Mourey and Solomita actively participated in retired racing greyhounds through organizations such as Grey Save. This direct involvement led to the adoption of a rescue greyhound named Bunny in 2019.
Mourey documented Bunny's rehabilitation from a timid, traumatized former racer to a comfortable house pet, using her platform to educate millions of viewers on the realities of the racing industry and the patience required for rescuing abused animals.
Following her departure from the internet, the couple continued this work, another greyhound named Loni in 2022.
Mourey also participated in the "Project for Awesome," an annual community-driven charitable movement on YouTube created by the Green brothers. Her involvement helped raise awareness and funds for various non-profit organizations selected by the online community.
also, Solomita has hosted charity livestreams on Twitch for organizations such as the American Association for Cancer Research, frequently with the vocal support of Mourey's fanbase.
Evolution of Public Persona (2015, 2020)
Between 2015 and 2020, Mourey's content evolved significantly. She moved away from the gender-based observational comedy that characterized her early success, such as "How to Trick People Into Thinking You're Good Looking," toward "do-it-yourself" projects, plant care, and pet-focused videos.
This era was defined by a absence of high-production value, which fans interpreted as a sign of authenticity. Media outlets and fans frequently labeled her an "unproblematic queen," a title Mourey expressed discomfort with, stating in 2020 that she was "just a person" who had made mistakes in the past.
Her relationship with her audience was characterized by a distinct absence of commercialization compared to her peers. She famously refused to do sponsored content on her main YouTube channel for years, relying instead on AdSense revenue and merchandise sales to maintain creative control. This decision reinforced her image as a creator who prioritized integrity over profit.
2020 Departure and Accountability
In June 2020, amidst the global racial justice protests and the Black Lives Matter movement, Mourey undertook a "self-audit" of her past content. On June 25, 2020, she uploaded a video titled "A Message," in which she addressed several videos from 2011 and 2012 that contained offensive material.
| Content Addressed | Nature of Offense | Mourey's Statement |
|---|---|---|
| Nicki Minaj Impersonation (2011) | Use of blackface/dark makeup | "It was not my intention to do blackface... all that matters is that people were offended. It's shameful, it's awful. I wish it wasn't part of my past." |
| Rap Song Parody (2011) | Anti-Asian racist lyrics and stereotypes | "It's awful, it doesn't need to exist. It's inexcusable, it's not okay." |
| "Slut-shaming" Rants (2012) | Internalized misogyny and judgment of women | Acknowledged "internalized misogyny" and stated it did not reflect her current values. |
In the video, Mourey announced she would be leaving her YouTube channel, stating, "I don't want to put anything out in the world that is going to hurt anybody." Unlike public apologies that are followed by a quick return to content creation, Mourey maintained her silence. She ceased all personal social media activity, ending her podcast Jenna & Julien in August 2020.
Post-Departure Legacy
Since her departure, Mourey has maintained a strict level of privacy, appearing only incidentally in the background of Solomita's content or in life updates, such as their marriage in 2022. Her decision to leave the platform entirely rather than attempt to rebrand was met with a mix of sadness and respect from the online community.
Her exit is frequently in discussions regarding "cancel culture" and accountability. commentators have pointed to her apology as a "gold standard" for taking responsibility without making excuses, while others have debated whether her permanent departure was a necessary penance for decade-old comedy.
even with her absence, her subscriber count remained at approximately 20 million for years after her exit, a testament to the enduring loyalty of her fanbase.
Controversies and Indefinite Hiatus
On June 25, 2020, Jenna Mourey uploaded a final video titled "A Message," marking the abrupt end of her decade-long career as a premier content creator. In the 11-minute address, Mourey confronted specific instances of offensive material from her early archives, issuing an unqualified apology before announcing an indefinite departure from the platform.
This decision followed a period of intensified scrutiny across the social media industry, where audiences demanded accountability for past discriminatory content.
Mourey's exit distinguished itself from typical influencer apologies by its finality. Rather than taking a temporary break to weather the news pattern, she ceased all production immediately.
She stated that she could no longer exist on the channel if her content caused pain, rejecting the option to simply delete the videos and continue without acknowledgment. At the time of her departure, her channel held over 20 million subscribers.
The "A Message" Video and Specific Allegations
In her final broadcast, Mourey addressed three primary controversies that had resurfaced. She refused to defend the intent behind the videos, arguing that the impact on viewers superseded her original motives. She systematically reviewed the footage, admitting that her attempts at comedy in 2011 and 2012 relied on harmful stereotypes and internalized misogyny.
| Video Title / Content | Year | Nature of Controversy | Mourey's 2020 Response |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nicki Minaj Impersonation | 2011 | Mourey wore heavy dark makeup (spray tan) to impersonate the rapper, leading to accusations of blackface. | Admitted the portrayal was "shameful" and "awful." She stated, "It was not my intention to do blackface... all that matters is that people were offended." |
| "Bounce That D*ck" (Rap Parody) | 2011 | Included the lyrics "Hey Ching Chong Wing Wong" and featured Mourey wearing a conical hat. | Labeled the content "inexcusable" and "racist." She expressed embarrassment that the video ever existed. |
| "Things I Don't Understand About Girls: Slut Edition" | 2012 | Criticized women for casual sex and clothing choices, perpetuating slut-shaming rhetoric. | Attributed the rant to "internalized misogyny" and acknowledged she had matured significantly since its publication. |
Following the upload, Mourey made the majority of her back catalog private. She expressed a desire to ensure she did not contribute negative energy to the world, stating, "I think I'm just going to move on from this channel for. I don't know if that's forever, I don't know how long that's going to be." As of late 2025, the video "A Message" remains her final upload.
Post-Departure and Security Incidents
Since June 2020, Mourey has maintained a strict digital silence, declining interviews and avoiding social media platforms. Her partner, Julien Solomita, continued his own content creation respected her request for privacy, offering only sparse updates regarding her well-being. The couple became engaged in April 2021 and married in November 2022.
Solomita confirmed the marriage publicly in December 2022, sharing photos where Mourey appeared did not speak.
The couple's privacy was violently breached on January 2, 2023. An intruder broke into their Los Angeles residence, forcing Solomita to use pepper spray to subdue the attacker. The suspect, a woman unknown to the couple, had reportedly harassed them for months prior to the break-in.
Solomita issued a statement confirming that both he and Mourey were safe shaken. The incident reinforced the need of their guarded lifestyle, as the parasocial obsession of former fans crossed into physical danger.
Legacy of the Exit
Mourey's departure ignited a polarized debate regarding "cancel culture" and accountability. While critics argued her past content warranted the backlash, of the commentary community viewed her self-imposed exile as excessive compared to peers who retained their platforms after similar or worse offenses.
Observers noted that Mourey held herself to a standard of "unproblematic" behavior that she felt she could no longer meet. Her exit is frequently as a rare instance of a creator prioritizing ethical responsibility over financial gain, leaving behind a channel that generated substantial monthly revenue.
By 2025, Mourey had not returned to public life. Paparazzi photographs from February 2025 captured her walking dogs with Solomita in Los Angeles, marking one of the few visual confirmations of her status in five years. These images confirmed she continues to reside in California, retired from the industry she helped define.
Personal Life
Following her departure from the internet in June 2020, Mourey has maintained a strictly private life in Sherman Oaks, California, residing in a $3. 8 million home she purchased with her partner, Julien Solomita, in 2018. While Solomita continues to work as a content creator on Twitch and YouTube, Mourey has ceased all public social media activity.
Updates regarding her well-being are occasionally provided by Solomita, who has stated that she is "offline, still very much a part of my life.".
Marriage and Security
Mourey and Solomita, who began dating in 2013, became engaged in early 2021. Solomita announced the engagement during a Twitch stream on April 15, 2021, revealing he had proposed a few months prior. The couple married in early November 2022. Solomita publicly confirmed the marriage on December 22, 2022, sharing photos of the private ceremony which included their dogs.
On January 2, 2023, the couple experienced a significant security breach at their residence. An intruder entered their home through a back door while Mourey was upstairs. Solomita intercepted the woman, subdued her with pepper spray, and locked her out until law enforcement arrived.
The Los Angeles Police Department arrested the intruder, who was booked on felony stalking charges. Solomita later revealed the individual had been harassing him for months prior to the break-in.
Pets and Animal Rescue
Animals remain a central part of Mourey's personal life, with a shift toward greyhound rescue. In April 2019, the couple adopted a retired racing greyhound named Bunny from the rescue organization GreySave. The adoption process and Bunny's rehabilitation from a timid rescue to a comfortable house dog were documented extensively before Mourey's retirement.
In February 2022, the couple began another greyhound named Loni. After a failed adoption trial with another family, Mourey and Solomita formally adopted Loni in July 2022, making her a permanent member of their "pack." The couple has continued to other greyhounds, including a dog named Nacho in late 2023.
Mourey's older dogs faced serious health challenges during this period. In November 2022, their Italian Greyhound, Peach, suffered a sudden loss of mobility in her hind legs. Veterinary surgeons identified and removed a mass on her spinal cord, and she subsequently regained her ability to walk.
On December 19, 2025, Solomita announced that Marbles, the Chihuahua who had appeared in Mourey's videos since 2010, had died at the age of 17 following a period of declining health and cardiac problem.
Post-Retirement Sightings
Since leaving the public eye, confirmed sightings of Mourey have been exceedingly rare. She appeared in the background of Solomita's wedding announcement photos in December 2022. In February 2025, paparazzi photographed Mourey walking her dogs with Solomita in Los Angeles, marking her public appearance in nearly five years.
She has otherwise adhered to a total blackout on personal updates, refusing interviews and avoiding social media platforms entirely.
The "Marbles" Legacy

Charles Franklin Marbles, known universally as "Mr. Marbles," was the Chihuahua who served as the namesake for Jenna Mourey's online persona. Born on June 5, 2008, Marbles was Mourey's companion for nearly her entire adult life, appearing in her earliest viral videos and remaining a constant presence until his death.
In December 2018, Marbles underwent surgery to remove his remaining teeth due to dental disease, a procedure that left him with his signature tongue-out appearance. By 2020, he had lost both his vision and hearing, requiring specialized care which Mourey and her husband, Julien Solomita, provided at home.
On December 19, 2025, Solomita announced that Marbles had passed away at the age of 17. The couple had previously disclosed in November 2025 that the dog was receiving end-of-life care following a decline in his health. Solomita described Marbles as a "ride or die" companion who had protected Jenna for nearly two decades.
His passing marked the end of an era for the "Jenna Marbles" brand, as the dog had been the channel's mascot since its inception in 2010.
The Italian Greyhounds
Mourey's second dog, Kermit, is an Italian Greyhound born on June 20, 2008. Known for his nervous demeanor and distinctive crying, Kermit became a central figure in Mourey's content, frequently referred to as "Cermet" or a "Nasty Boy." In his later years, Kermit was diagnosed with Cushing's disease, a condition caused by an overproduction of cortisol.
As of early 2026, Kermit remains with the family suffers from significant age-related ailments, including anxiety and sensory loss.
Peach, a female Italian Greyhound born in 2014, was adopted by Solomita raised alongside Mourey's dogs. frequently called "Paesh," she is known for her high energy and intelligence relative to the other pets. In 2021, Peach suffered a serious health scare that required serious care, though she made a full recovery. She remains the most active of the original trio.
Greyhound Rescues
In April 2019, Mourey and Solomita adopted a retired racing Greyhound named Bunny from the rescue organization GreySave. Born in 2016, Bunny had raced under the name " Changer" before suffering a leg injury. Her adoption was documented in a dedicated video where Mourey highlighted the rehabilitation process for ex-racing dogs.
Bunny arrived with significant behavioral timidity, frequently freezing in doorways and fearing indoor spaces, gradually acclimated to domestic life.
Following Mourey's departure from the internet, the couple continued their work with GreySave. In February 2022, they began another Greyhound named Loni (originally Solomon). Loni became a " fail" and was permanently adopted into the pack later that year.
The addition of Loni brought the household's dog count to four (prior to Marbles' passing), solidifying the couple's commitment to Greyhound rescue and rehabilitation.
Other Pets
Mourey also owned a hamster named Ad, who appeared in several videos testing the intelligence of her dogs. Ad passed away on March 30, 2018. Mourey announced the death on Twitter, noting that Ad had lived a full life for a hamster. The pet's name was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the "ad revenue" generated by YouTube videos.
